Belly Binding

During the postpartum period, it's common for new moms to experience a range of physical sensations, including a sense of emptiness or discomfort in the belly area. This is due to the settling of your organs and the inactivity of your straight abs over the past few months.
To support your recovery, I'd like to offer you the option of belly binding. This gentle technique involves wrapping a soft cloth around your midsection, from your pelvis to your sternum, to provide the support and comfort you need during this time. The binding helps to ease any discomfort or tightness in the abdominal area, while also promoting a healthy posture, which can be especially beneficial during feedings.
I'll come to your home to apply the belly bind, and during one of these sessions, I'll also teach you or your partner how to use the technique effectively. We'll also discuss instructions on how to safely and comfortably use the bind on your own. Additionally, before starting the binding process, we can check whether a warming abdominal massage or food massagemay be appropriate for you. The heat from the treatment can help to further promote your recovery and well-being.

Is a postpartum healing ceremony, which was created to nurture the mother after her passage through the extremely opening experience of pregnancy, labor and childbirth (during which a woman allows another soul to take birth through her). It helps a woman to find her own self and centre again and allows her to be sealed back into herself.

*This ceremony is designed for mothers from 6 weeks postpartum and beyond.

The Origins of the Ceremony

It is inspired by a Mexican tradition where the postpartum mother is anointed and wrapped in the Mayan tradition. There is a calling of her spirit back to herself as she has been a portal for carrying new life, and has walked the threshold between worlds. A transformation has also begun as the mother embraces new aspects of herself through this rite of passage into new stages of motherhood. Our intention is to provide a space as a nurturing and supportive environment in which healing can take place on these many levels.

During the Ceremony...

The ceremony begins with a short introduction and an offering towards creating personal intention. Mom will then be comfortably situated on bed, when a ‘closing’ will be done by wrapping rebozos around seven points along the mother’s body (including the cranium, the midsection, and the pelvic area). Once the wrapping is complete, she is allowed to lie quietly and integrate her experience. A variety of healing modalities may be used involving reiki, aromatherapy, and sound healing. Mom’s body will give us the cue on when it is ready to be unwrapped.

The Benefits of the Ceremony

This process literally helps "close" a Mother's body, which "opens" in so many ways, in preparation for, during birth itself, and in the embarking into motherhood.

Not only it helps facilitate a physical shrinkage of the uterus, and guide the bones back to their original positioning, but also helps "close" a new Mother energetically, as both pregnancy, and particularly the intense process of labor and birth, can be very vulnerable times for a woman, psychologically and psychically
